Requests LG Manoj Sinha for intervention to help distressed citizens

Srinagar, Sep 20: Jammu and Kashmir Workers Party President, Mir Junaid on Tuesday took to
his social media’s verified twitter handle and expressed his serious concern over the deteriorating
services and creating hurdles for citizens by Passport office Srinagar. He in a series of tweets said
that Regional Passport office in Kashmir division has become an administrative nightmare for the
residents. The people have been pushed to the wall while tagging the Union External Affairs
Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar.
While deliberating on the financial administrative losses to the populace, he said that if a person
has an expired passport, he is forced to undergo the administrative process as if he is applying
for a new one. This causes delays, financial administrative losses to a huge population.
Pertinent to mention here that Mir Junaid has never been a habitual of criticising government
polices. He in his series of tweets questioned the requirement of mother’s passport, if someone
wants to renew, and he tweets, “Then, a new (and may I say comical?) requirement is that people
are asked to get their mothers passport if they want to renew their old passports! No where do
the rules mention these bizarre requirements!” (sic), he tweeted.
Another tweet wherein Mir says that offices are meant to ease public problems but the passport
office in Srinagar had become a new trauma centre. He tweeted,
“Women who change their names (or surnames) after marriage or those who have slight spelling
corrections – they are made to undergo hell. Even after showing newspaper cuttings, apparently
it isn’t deemed to be enough! The place which was meant to assist the citizens, which runs on
the taxes paid by the citizens, has become a trauma centre for those very citizens on whose taxes
it runs! The phone helpline is of course never answered @MEAIndia, (sic)” Tweets Mir.
Among his thread of tweets, he in his last tweet appeals lieutenant Governor of Jammu and
Kashmir to interfere into the functioning of such offices that create hurdles instead of bringing
ease in people’s lives.
“I request the honourable Lieutenant Governor @manojsinha_ to look into this pressing matter.
It is causing extreme inconvenience to thousands of citizens in J&K.”
