In continuation to the celebrations of series of events under “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” Krishi Vigyan Kendra Srinagar SKUAT-Kashmir today organized a one day National campaign on “Poshan Abhiyan and Tree Plantation” in collaboration with IFFCO at KVK Campus.
The aim of the programme was to highlight the importance of Nutri-garden, balanced diet, Bio fortified varieties of vegetables and cereals for healthy lifestyle. The programme was attended by 105 participants including farmers, PIR’s, staff members and university officers. The function started with a welcome address by Dr. Sajad Mohiudin, (Sr. Scientist & Head KVK Srinagar). He also deliberated upon the importance of nutrition for the human body and the value of healthy eating practices and proper nutrition for upholding a healthy lifestyle. Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Worthy Director Extension SKUAST-K Shalimar, who was the Chief Guest of the function while addressing to the gathering emphasized on the adaption of Modern technologies for better returns. He also stressed upon the use of Millets/Nutri cereals in daily diet and also interacted with the farmers. During the programme adress of Hon’ble Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, GoI was also telcasted online through Youtube to the farmers. Dr. Uzma Bashir (Soil Scientist) delivered a lecture on importance of Biofortified varities in kitchen Garden and use of Nano Urea. Dr. Aasima Rafiq, Scientist (FST) sensitized the participants about Interaction on nutri-cereals and their role on human health. Dr. Saima Paul, Home Scientist at KVK made a demonstration on Preparation of balanced diet especially for Nursing and lactating mothers. On the eve, saplings and seed kits of vegetables were also distributed among the participants and a plantation drive was also carried at KVK Campus. Other experts who attended the programme included, Mr. Mohd Ashraf Mir & Jalal u din Peer, Yasir Arafat and other staff members. The programme was moderated by Dr. Ajaz Ah. Ganie (Scientist Animal Science) and concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Rayees Ah. Wani (Scientist Fruit Science).
